Hey ladies! It’s that time of year again -mid August with September right around the corner. Whether you’re going back to High-school, university or taking part- time courses, there are always ways to stay organized and on top of your deadlines, and ensure that you’re doing your best to stay in control of your studies. As a university student myself, I have learned a lot about staying organized and making sure I have everything I need to succeed while learning. Here are my top 5 tips that I use that help me do well when studying/ attending classes.

I cannot stress this enough, this has saved me when I have deadlines and events. Being in a sorority, working part time, having a social life and taking full-time classes, requires you to  write things down to remember events and stay organized when planning things. Keeping a planner and writing events down in advance can save you alot of hassle when the time comes, since with so much going on its hard to remember what you have to do in the next week. Not only this, but keeping a planner can also be fun, colour coordinating events, adding in little notes and reminders for yourself and using a cute notebook can also make the whole process fun.

This Kate Spade planner is one of my favourites:

Eating properly during school is key. Your brain needs to have energy to think and analyze work. It is important to always carry food with you when you are on the go, to ensure that you never get to the level of being extremely hungry where you can’t even focus on your work. Some great snacks that I make sure to eat are: nuts – great source of protein and also known as “brain food”, fruit – apples, bananas, strawberries, oranges, any fruit is easy to carry around and is also high in fibre. Vegetables, crackers, and granola bars are also good to keep with you to snack on before an exam or during a study session.

Life can get overwhelming and sometimes you get so into studying you loose track of time. Taking a break is so important for your mental and physical health. It’s important to take a break, get up, go for a walk, eat something, stretch, listen to your favourite song and dance around the room, or see a friend. It is not good to do anything over the top, taking a break is key in keeping your  mind alert and giving your body what it needs. Always remember to listen to your body first. If you’re tired, sleep, hungry, eat, in need of physical exercise, do anything, even 20 squats and 40 jumping jacks can make a difference.

Having a quiet space to study and have time for your and your studies is important. Find a room whether it’s on campus or at home where no one can bother you for a few hours where you have peace and quiet. To effectively study it is important to make sure you are in a place where you cannot be disturbed for a few hours. Turn off your technology and leave it in your bag, do not take it out until you are completed your session. Cafes are a good idea if you like to study around people, as it keeps you motivated to see others studying as well, and the cafe atmosphere is calming with the aroma of coffee and relaxing music playing. Do whatever works best for you to be your most productive, your surroundings can have a large impact on how effectively you study.

Mindset is everything. Life is what you perceive it to be, and in order for you to be successful, you have to make sure you stay positive and know that the struggles are there for a reason, to help you grow. Staying positive, being grateful for where you are in your life is very important in staying calm and living in the present. Make sure you take time to look at your life and be grateful for where you are, who you have in your life, and be happy with what you’re doing. If you aren’t happy, change something, you have the power to do so. Do not be stuck in something that makes you unhappy, it isn’t worth it.

What are your ways of staying on task and being successful on a daily basis?
