It seems that in today;s society people find it “cool” to be stressed all the time and lack sleep, and always be on the go with new ideas. Today at work, I sat at my desk and pulled up an article on business insider about stress. Stress. It’s so common in today’s society. Everyone is “so stressed”, “super busy”, always on the go. What is the true meaning of stress? Personally, I feel everyone is stressed in one way or another, no ones life is perfect, no one has the answers to all life’s’ questions, but honestly, stress can but good, but at some point its bad, and it is important that we learn to control it. Back to the article I talked about earlier, basically the main idea of it was that people who had a routine in their daily lives felt like their lives had a purpose, it gave meaning to their lives, therefore they are less stressed. Stress is good to motivate someone and push you to work harder but at some point its not worth it – for your mental and physical health. Everyone has different ways of coping with stress but after looking into it and hearing from wise people I learned one main thing about keeping stress levels low – routine. Routines can get boring but having a foundational daily routine can help you feel at ease and be something to look forward to at the end of a busy day. When your life is a complete mess and you loose track of everything – from eating to keeping your room clean, on top of all of life’s incidents that are thrown at you, it can be more stressful.

Some simple routines to use to help yourself stay less stressed that are simple are:

  1. clean your room
  2. drink a cup of coffee or tea in the morning
  3. read a chapter of a book at the end of the night
  4. walk to work
  5. go for a run or go to the gym a few times a week
  6. keep a journal
  7. buy weekly flowers for yourself
  8. keep a to do list
  9. plan out your week
  10. sleep at the same time every night

What are some things you do to keep your stress levels low?
